I'm gonna post just the photos I took from my first morning in KL which I did a bit of sightseeing, going around to KL Tower and the Petronas Twin Towers. Lovely people, lovely sights, lovely nightlife. In short, I had an awesome time shooting and exploring that city, which I can safely say, that never sleeps.

If you people know the reason I went there, you know how to get to my Flickr and check out the stuff I took. Definitely not gonna post it here.

Couldn't get much focus blurred shots in, as the show ended abruptly. I was set up with a 70-200 at the outset, but once reality sets in, I had to run back to the car to get my 17-55. And focus blurring with the 17-55 is a real pain in the rear.

Bubbles floated out of the decoration, giving a sense of a snowy Christmas eve.

I feel there was something special in the air Christmas eve, so I decided to go ahead and stop by the NBT Christmas Decoration that they put up every festive event to draw crowds to the premises. That night was no exception, as a large crowd gathered up, feeling attracted to the spirit of the Christmas eve.

Taken last year, with Jim747 in tow. I practically forced him to shoot here.

CPL stacked with ND grad in front to cut off the bright sunlight. Didn't cut it off completely though, too bad.

Wanted to try out something with the 14mm and F60 film camera, but wanted to take some test shots to see the shutter speed and aperture matches. Yeah, I use my 2k DSLR as a light meter. Coz the 14mm won't meter and focus on the F60. Hey, you gotta use what you have.

A stage actor adorned with make up and full on costume prepares for the stage show.

Looks like the transition is complete, well on the surface that is. All my links will point to the new site, and my old link will redirect itself to here. But all my older posts are still pointing to the old server and looks like I have to edit all the files individually to point to the new site so any visitors via Google will find the new site. I'm just anal when it comes to the little things really, so all these little nagging things, such as redirecting, dead links, and dead images are still at the back of my mind.

My biggest concern really is the Metal Gear Solid Codec Ringtone I've posted a while back, that has since become my most popular post. Since it looks like I can't redirect it automatically as easy as it was with the main index page, it seems that the ranking for this new site's Codec Ringtone is gonna start at the bottom now.

Anyway, everything I've designed has been translated 98% onto the final site, 2% of which is the little small problems, like dead images and in IE, those menu won't drop down at all. Oh, you're on IE? Go try Firefox or Opera or even the latest phones to check my site. It should either drop down, or gracefully downgrades to an accessible site without the layouting. My N80 can drop down the menu items. An iPhone could as well (that's for another story), I haven't tried on Linux systems or other obscure browsers, but if they're based on a good CSS compliant browser, it should drop down.

And oh. The biggest thing that led me to design this site as such? Now I can present a full 1024 px wide landscape images. Fun for your bandwidth.

This post is titled Chtulhu - His Majesty's 61st Birthday Fireworks by author SoulJah. Chtulhu
Cthulhu is a fictional monster created by horror author H. P. Lovecraft, and is one of Lovecraft's Great Old Ones. It is often cited for the extreme descriptions given of its appearance, size, and the abject terror that it invokes. Because of this reputation, Cthulhu is often referred to in sci-fi and fantasy circles as a tongue-in-cheek shorthand for extreme horror or evil.

Had an outing with the lads for the fireworks. In attendance were Jim747, Airbiscuit, Artyeo and his wife, some two old cool dudes, and CPS and Ber off somewhere taking a different vantage point. Where were we located? I scouted a jetty the day before for our shoot, and sure enough, the two old dudes were there first. We first tried my second location, which was on top of a ridiculously high concrete bridge but found our shots ruined due to the tungsten lamps in our shooting line of sight. Went back to the jetty, joining the other older dudes there, and set up our equipment. With remote cords in hand, cameras mounted on tripods, we were set. I intended to get some focus blur effect but only had a rough idea on how to do it. In the end, I tried makig lots of experimentations to get the timing right just to get a decent image. In all, I succeeded in taking a couple of cool focus blurred shots, which means, for me, it's a great outing.

A Merlin I think.

Look closely, You can see silhouette of a man, running towards the back.

Set the camera on the widest setting on long exposure and just strobe the whole length of the chopper at around 1/8th power I think.

This post is titled Business School Bazaar at Yayasan by author SoulJah.
After the morning breakfast at Jing Chew, a group of us went ahead and covered the Business School Bazaar at the Yayasan Complex, just for something different. I went ahead and tried a hand at Strobist style event photography. It was all fun as UcingItam, AirBiscuit, Jim, Hj. Zul, Ber, Zadm scoured the grounds and took pictures. Pity I've sold my 18-135mm kit lens to her, I couldn't take any really wide angle pictures. So armed with the 50mm, and strobe on a tripod, I tried to do some really nifty things at this hectic carnival. Pity I didn't notice the sky high ISO 800, that messed up a helluva lot of my shots.

This post is titled Go-Kart Race at Jerudong Park on 6th May, 2007 by author SoulJah. After the morning TT session at Jing Chew with... wait for it... Bruneian, AnakBrunei and missus, Zadm, Ber (who left as I was arriving), Airbiscuit, Jim747, hjzul, RezaFaizal and missus, Nikonian, and the ever knowing Rano, (phew, that's a long list)... me, Airbiscuit and Jim747 decided to go ahead with Rano's suggestion of a Go-Kart/Cub Bike/Mini Bike race at Jerudong Park's Go Kart track. It was awesome grounds to practice panning shots. Hey, what's more fun to pan with than a relatively slow moving auto race? Got great images out of the whole deal. What a way to spend my 24th birthday.

This post is titled Starlight, starbright, where were the star gazing last night? by author SoulJah. Was pretty excited about last night's prospect about taking my umbrella stand out for the first time for an on location shoot. Somehow I convinced airbiscuit along for the night. How wrong he was! What greeted us was a sudden downpour of rain, dashing hopes for a star gazing session. What resulted was a fuck boring presentation about the fucking solar system and other heavenly bodies. Talk about boring Powerpoints...

I had to make do with what we've got, so I set up my umbrella, loaded batteries into the loaned SB800 from airbiscuit and worked the Nikon CLS (Creative Lighting System) magic.

Thanks Strobist!

70% Success

Wanted to emulate the first shot, getting the rim light not so bright on the child, but this child was kinda fidgety and they were about to pack up the telescope anyway. So I did what I had to do, burst everything and be done with it.

This was taken at almost similar shutter speeds; while only a few seconds apart, it clearly shows that the moon is slowly rising. Wanted to take the details of the moon as well, but the large aperture made that impossible.
